    Just as the engine of Lancer Evolution needs to breathe, so must its mighty brakes to remain cool. The heat produced by their great power is removed by air passing through the side fender air outlets.

    SEATS

    The highly supportive front seats in Lancer Evolution are designed to leave you feeling relaxed and comfortable even after a long journey or exhilarating drive on track or your favourite road. They have been specially developed by Recaro, one of the world's leading manufacturers of seats for motorsport and high-performance vehicles. 

     

    THE DESIGNER

    Masaki Matsuhara, General Manager of Design at Mitsubishi Research & Design Europe: "The new Lancer Evolution is now both a reality and the company's flagship. First, we improved functionality by pushing back the boundaries in all areas. At the same time we created the optimal shape while taking the Lancer Evolution's aerodynamics to a new level. Finally, the design had to appeal to the customer; the toughest task of all. The result combines genuine, ornament-free function with more beauty than ever." 

     

    TESTING

    For the exterior, our engineers completed an exhaustive wind tunnel test program. Even at the prototype stage, it was decided that every line, duct and outlet should have a function - no ornaments would be allowed. The Lancer Evolution had to be more beautiful than ever and to achieve this beauty through functional shapes was a mighty challenge.

    The engine features direct valve actuation and variable valve timing toimprove performance at all speeds. Despite its high output, the engine is 13.5kg lighter than its predecessor, thanks to a die-cast aluminium engine lock. And now it is even positioned 10mm lower, giving the car a lower centre of gravity.  

    TC-SST

    The light and compact six-speed Twin-Clutch Sport Shift Transmission (TC-SST) uses two clutches, one to engage the gear in use, the other to pre-select the next gear required, resulting in lightning-quick changes.

    FAST SHIFTING

    The magnesium shift paddles behind the sports steering wheel of Lancer Evolution allow you to make rapid gear changes without taking hands off the wheel, giving you full control of the car in maximum comfort.

    5-SPEED MANUAL

    The five-speed manual gearbox is perfect for the driver who enjoys driving in its purest form. Now stronger, the gearbox uses multi-synchromesh on all gears for smoother changes. For efficiency, a gear indicator in the MID recommends the best gear for current driving conditions.

    EXTENSIVE USE OF ALUMINIUM

    Aluminium is used to make the roof, bonnet, front fenders and front and rear bumper beams. This makes Lancer Evolution lighter and reduces the weight in key areas, concentrating mass in the centre of the car and keeping the centre of gravity low. The result is greater performance with even more agile handling.

    SUPER ALL WHEEL CONTROL

    An essential element of a car with enormous performance is the ability to transfer its power to the road surface. This is where Lancer Evolution excels, thanks to Super All Wheel Control  
    (S-AWC). S-AWC brings together a number of highly developed electronic and mechanical devices to make Lancer Evolution more dynamically capable, safe and enjoyable than ever before. S-AWC ensures that every bit of available grip is used as effectively as possible on any surface by counteracting any slip or loss of traction.


    ACTIVE CENTRE DIFFERENTIAL WITH 3 MODES

    The Active Centre Differential (ACD) regulates the difference in speed between front and rear wheels to enhance steering response and traction. A switch allows you to choose between settings that are optimised for snow, gravel or tarmac surfaces. 

     

    ACTIVE YAW CONTROL

    Lancer Evolution is the only car to be equipped with super-intelligent Active Yaw Control (AYC). AYC uses multiple sets of information about the car's attitude to split torque between the rear wheels through an electronically controlled rear differential. The result is even higher levels of secure cornering. In difficult corners where other cars may require you to brake, Lancer Evolution keeps on accelerating ñ thanks to AYC.

    SPORTS ABS WITH EBD

    Sports ABS uses sensors on all four wheels to prevent any wheel locking, even when you fully use the incredible braking power of Lancer Evolution. It has also been designed to intervene as progressively as possible. This makes braking a far more comfortable and natural experience than with normal ABS. Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) delivers maximum braking power to each wheel at all times, no matter what the road conditions, number of passengers or cargo load level.

    ACTIVE STABILITY CONTROL

    Active Stability Control (ASC) contributes enormously to the stability, dynamic brilliance and active safety levels of Lancer Evolution. ASC smoothly and quickly applies individual brakes when wheel slip is detected, preventing loss of control and ensuring continuous driving pleasure.

    The supportive Recaro seats in the front of Lancer Evolution provide almost as much grip as its advanced drive system, letting you enjoy its cornering abilities in total comfort, even on the racetrack or long journeys.     ROCKFORD FOSGATE® PREMIUM AUDIO SYSTEM

    Just as Lancer Evolution matches strength with sophistication, its Rockford Fosgate® premium audio system offers you massive music power with refinement. Its 710 Watts are delivered through a Digital Sound Processor (DSP) and across nine speakers that have been specially tuned for Lancer Evolution. For those moments when you wish to take a break from the exhilarating drive, this awesome sounding audio system produces performances you will find equally thrilling.

    MITSUBISHI MULTI COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

    To ensure getting to your destination is as efficient as it is enjoyable, Lancer Evolution employs the latest technology. The Mitsubishi Multi Communication System uses a 40GB hard disk that delivers super-quick navigation with no need to change CDs. Its navigation system features a 7-inch touch panel screen that is clear to read and simple to use. The hard disk allows the Mitsubishi Multi Communication System to also act as a music server that stores up to 2,000 of your favourite music tracks, so you can take them everywhere with you. And if all those great tracks are already on your digital music player, the auxiliary plug makes it easy to listen to them in perfect sound.

    ETACS, or Electronic Time and Alarm Control System allows you to personalise the operation of a wide range of features. For example, you can decide how long the lights should remain on after you lock the doors. The selections can be made using the touch screen of the Mitsubishi Multi Communication System or your Mitsubishi dealership will set it up for you.  

    AUTO-LIGHT AND RAIN SENSOR

    The rain sensor activates your windscreen wipers automatically when moisture is detected on the glass. A sensor also measures available light and switches your headlamps on as soon as they are needed. This may not always be at dusk, for example: the lamps react if you drive through a tunnel, or if the daylight fades due to a storm. 

     

    KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM

    Makes it possible to lock and unlock the doors and trunk.

    The clever keyless entry and start system allows you to open the front doors and trunk, and start the engine without the key leaving your pocket or purse. 

    INDICATOR WITH COMFORT MODE

    When the indicator lever is tapped briefly, the indicator flashes three times and then stops & allowing you to concentrate on manoeuvring, thereby making driving safer and easier.

    SPEED SENSITIVE WIPERS

    When the front wipers are set to intermittent, a speed sensor changes the wiper interval to suit the car's speed for better visibility.

    Sports ABS 
    Sports ABS uses sensors on all four wheels to prevent any wheel locking, even when you fully use the incredible braking power of Lancer Evolution. It also intervenes as progressively as possible, so braking with Sports ABS is a far more comfortable and natural experience than with normal ABS. 

    Electronic Brake-force Distribution 
    Regardless of how many people or how much cargo you have with you, Lancer Evolution ensures you will stop quickly, thanks to Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). EBD sends maximum braking effort to individual wheels, making the most of the hugely powerful brakes and wide, grippy tyres. 

    Brake Assist allows controlled brake force, even while cornering, for sharper braking performance.

    ASC

    Active Stability Control (ASC) uses sensors placed all around Lancer Evolution to detect when a wheel is slipping. It then immediately applies braking force to individual wheels, stopping the development of loss of control. Just like Lancer Evolution's Sports ABS, ASC operates extremely quickly and smoothly, so that its intervention does not detract from your driving pleasure.

    The highly developed Super All Wheel Control System (S-AWC), Active Centre Differential (ACD) and Active Yaw Control (AYC) give you access to even more grip and manoeuvrability. They give the Lancer Evolution an enormous dynamic advantage over other cars and make an accident far less likely. 

    To help you see the road ahead more clearly, the bi-xenon headlamps of Lancer Evolution employ cornering lamps that illuminate the direction of travel at speeds of 100km/h or less. They allow you to see areas of the road and hazards that would otherwise not be visible. 




  • 1973 - Lancer 1600 GSR - an immediate success

    Stylish, lightweight compact and reliable, thanks to the quality of its engineering, the Mitsubishi Lancer was an instant hit when introduced in 1973. The next year, the sporting Lancer 1600 GSR made its mark in rallying with a glorious maiden victory in the toughest of all World Rally Championship events, the Safari Rally.

    The Lancer went on dominating the world stage. It quickly gained the reputation of the King of Cars as it notched up so many victories, of which the Safari Rally and the Southern Cross Rally were most celebrated.

    1982 - Lancer Fiore - the first front-wheel-drive

    In 1982 Mitsubishi Motors introduced the first front-wheel-drive Lancer, the MkIII also known as the Lancer Fiore. Its clean lines and balanced proportions attracted admiring visitors to the showrooms.

    1988 - Lancer MkV - the first hatchback

    Adding functionality to its proven strengths, the Lancer added a hatchback model, a format much favoured in Europe.

    1992 - Lancer GRS - the first Lancer Evolution

    Mitsubishi's first Lancer Evolution went on sale in 1992. It was developed with participation in the World Rally Championships high on its list of priorities. It had a 2500mm wheelbase, considered ideal for rallying, and a superb engine with superior tuning characteristics, developed from generations of reliable Mitsubishi Motors engines. The name Lancer Evolution - or Evo - quickly became shorthand for exhilarating performance and handling.

    1996 - Driver's World Championship

    Rapid development of new models was to become one of the hallmarks of the Lancer Evolution series. With its huge rear wing, the Lancer Evolution III was designed and engineered as the ultimate rally machine, bringing Mitsubishi Motors its first Driver's Championship in the WRC for Tommi Makinen.

    Heritage-1

    1998 - Manufacturer's World Championship

    1998 was a milestone year for Mitsubishi Motors. Two decades of hard work, dedication and technical development in the World Rally Championships were rewarded when Mitsubishi finally won the Manufacturer's Championship. Mitsubishi Motors persisted in using production-based cars feeding the sophisticated technology developed for rallying back into production models.

    2003 - MkVIII - Return of the Lancer

    After a few years' hiatus, the Lancer returns to Europe in 2003. A year later, the Lancer Evolution VIII joins the party. The new front fascia brought it more into line with the corporate look and the spec sheet now added the Super AYC Technology

    2005 - MkIX - The previous generation

    Last of the previous generation, the 2005 Lancer Evolution IX featured more sophisticated aerodynamics and a light material (aluminium) body construction. In parallel, the standard Lancer is voted Car Of The Year in the essential Russian market.

    HERITAGE-1

    The Lancer Evolution appeared in 1992: what an impact it had! This car was especially conceived for Group A rallying, with the WRC in mind. In its 1993 debut it made third place in the Acropolis Rally and second in the RAC Rally. The Evolution II appeared in 1994 and won the 1995 Swedish rally. Thereafter, Mitsubishi tightened its grip on world rallying, with every new Lancer Evolution generation improving the technology, bringing more victories and boosting sales to the point where production of the Evolution IV was sold out in days. The legendary Tommi Makinen won the WRC driver's title every year from 1996 to 1999. The Lancer Evolution VIII of 2003 brought the Lancer Evolution to customers in Europe and the United States. The last o the previous generation, Lancer Evolution IX, added even more sophisticated aerodynamics and part-aluminium.
